Objectives and outcomes

The aim of the project is to create a modern method of knowledge management, in some way comparable in structure and functionality of a 'honeycomb'. Parts of the system will be turned into a practical tool to be tested. Afterwards - but in a subsequent project - a possible full and world wide implementation can be conducted.

The phases of the project are to:

Research recent learning and awareness theory
Overview current methods of information management
Develop a system's meta-structure
Develop a logical elements micro-structure
Compose user orientated manuals and guidelines

1 For the success of the project it is a prerequisite to analyse recent learning and awareness theory, which stands in connection to the project target. Especially in a learner centred approach the natural human ways of data reception and processing have to be reflected and transferred to an artificial knowledge management system.

Research on recent learning and awareness theory

Overview current methods of information management

2. The innovative approach combines different aspects of knowledge treatment ranging from data storage to knowledge transfer/management it is necessary to know what the market offers, to clearly define where traditional ways have failed so far, or perhaps can be integrated. To analyse the pros and cons of these proprietary solutions is a necessity for the design of the intended modular knowledge base and the learning paths therein.

3a.
Development of system's meta-structure

With the project being aimed to generate a new 'honeycomb' related knowledge management system, the project will create a compatible meta-structure, only which will enable us to package single (honey) cells in to an operational platform (the so-called “bee-hive”). It will develop, standardise and regulate in stringent norms aspects of the system, including the library structure, knowledge transfer ways, link structure, navigation mapping, quality ranking system, tutorial and an incentive / motivation system aimed to attract experts to participate.

3b.
Development of logical elements micro-structure

Based on the meta-structure analysis of the previous phase the smaller logical elements have to be discussed in detail. It is necessary to continue also on the micro-level the standardisation and regulation, which has been started at the meta-structure level already. Specific aims are to find definitions regarding e.g. shapes, borders, fonts and volume of different knowledge units, the connectors positioning and permeability, unambiguous indexing and identification of content, input/output definitions, data retrieval and subsequent composition, ranking and evaluation.

Manuals and guidelines

4. For the various group beneficiaries instruction and guidance notes are offered. The planned groups of readers are content providers, training course developers, teachers, lecturers and instructors, course attendees (workers/ students), assessors/examiners and platform application developers.
